Asian Man

Impoverished evangelist facing homelessness makes a shocking choice to reach as many as possible with the Gospel as possible!

On the west shore of Myanmar (Burma) is the state of Rakhine which is riddled with violence due to Civil War.  In addition, they were devestated by a severe hurricane (cyclone).  This is the austere setting for a story of extreme devotion to God.

In Myanmar, the Evangelists' Fellowship ministry has dozens of small groups across the nation that meet weekly via Zoom for equipping and encouragement.  Around 400 Burmese pastors, evangelists and a few American evangelists participate.  There are two of these groups in Rakhine.

During one of the Zoom call meetings, I asked if any of the group members had homes that were damaged by the recent hurricane. Everyone in the group raised their hands.  I then asked how bad the damage was.  They all said each of their homes were completely destroyed by the hurricane.   I thought, how terrible!   Then I realized that none of them would have told me if I had not known about the storm and taken the opportunity to ask.  They were more concerned about being with one another, reaching out to the lost and managing life's hardships by the grace of God.   I was humbled.

But it gets better. I know what the Apostle John said about seeing your brother in need, saying "be warmed and filled" and not giving anything to materially help.  Not wanting to be on the wrong side of that bible verse, I took a chunk of money out of my savings and sent it to our national director of the Evangelist Fellowships in Myanmar, telling him to distribute the funds to those in Rakhine who lost their homes.

Two weeks later, I was again talking with the Rakhine small group and one of the brothers there gave a great testimony of going to a village that was some distance from his home to preach the gospel.  He had success with over a dozen Buddhists responding to the Gospel and surrendering to the Lord Jesus. Our national director happened to be on that same Zoom call and afterwards told me an amazing thing.  The man who had gone evangelizing was one of the people who had received funds to help rebuild his home, but instead he took the money and used it for ministry materials and traveling expenses to go to the village to preach the Gospel!

My thoughts immediately ran to some familiar Bible stories of extreme devotion to God.

  • Abraham who was willing to sacrifice his son, Isaac, in obedience to God

  • The poor widow who gave her last two copper coins in the temple offering.

  • Mary who broke her alabaster vial of perfume on the feet of Jesus.

  • Jesus, who humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

May God give each of us opportunities to show Him extreme devotion during our brief time on earth.

Testimonies of the lost surrendering their lives to Jesus Christ once they learn the truth in the Gospel!

Once Alone in the Village

An Evangelists' Fellowship evangelist and her team visited a village that had only one Christian, an 83-year-old lady.   She received the evangelism team and invited her neighbors to come hear the Gospel.  Her home was packed with 50 people and 25 of them received Christ that day!

On another day, the team scheduled to show the Jesus Film in the same village.  This same 83 year old lady invited people again and had 50 OTHERS come.  About ½ of the people received Christ after viewing the film!

A Christmas to Remember

Brother Tab was a Muslim until 2018.  Last year his home in Mandalay, Myanmar was destroyed by the government so that he now lives in a tent. Despite his many hardships, at a Christmas Celebration, he shared the Gospel with those present.  Ten people accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior!

Saved Because of Healing Power

Sister Mee testifies that people are accepting Jesus Christ because of healings that are taking place.  Got has healed paralysis and cancer and so much more! One lady gave birth despite complications of intense pain.  She and her fellow believers prayed, and she quickly recovered her health and as a bonus she was significantly aided with finances to cover her hospital bill.

Power of Prayer

Brother San has been conducting summer camps for youth for several years.  The previous year there was no one who surrendered their life to the Lord. So this year they made a more concentrated prayer effort, praying before and during the camp sessions.  Despite having very limited camp resources for the youth, God saved seven people and the Spirit of God moved dramatically!

Little Girl in a Restaurant

Believers giving their lives and their time to share the truth of what Jesus did for all of us with those that are hurting and desperate!

Lives Changed in Leadership School

Rev. Thang of the Assemblies of God started a Leadership school for the youth.  Twenty-one people attended the group which included numerous unsaved Buddhists.  Of that number four Buddhists received Christ as Savior and Lord, walking away from the religion of Buddhism.  Rev. Thangs says that 14 of the 21 members of the class also received water-baptism.

How Far Would You Walk?

Sister O and her husband often go to other villages to share the Gospel.  A Gospel meeting was scheduled and advertised in a village that was 60 miles from their home.  Although travel is dangerous in Myanmar because of the civil war there, they traveled on the roads by car anyway.  Not all who attended had access to a car - some attendees walked up to 50 miles to be there.  God honored their spiritual hunger by saving and healing many.  Sister O and husband returned safely to their home.

Church Overflow

Pastor Win has been the pastor for 32 years.   During that time, he has seldom seen an overflow crowd at his services.  However, now is a different story.  His church services are full of people with many sitting outside to listen.  Recently, four people accepted Christ!

Discipleship Wisdom

Pastor Tin testified that God has been faithfully saving numerous people each month in his church services.  His strategy is to distribute food to the visitors that was provided by the Golden Shores Initiative ministry. The Buddhist sinners come for the food but hear the Gospel and find Christ!

The pastor soon discovered that free food was great to use in evangelism but was not effective for discipling the new believers.  Instead, he gave the new believers a Bible, paper and a pen and told them to copy the Gospel of John and write out any questions they have.  This trained the new believers to trust God rather than the church for their needs.  He is making disciples of Christ!

Every week dozens hear the Gospel on the NCSU campus.
